An original background color concept from the Disney Studios animated film, "Oliver and Company" (1988). Featuring a luxurious room with a grand piano, the color key was created at the studio by James Coleman and used during the development process. This particular concept is a xerox drawing that has been hand-colored with marker and paint. The concept was used to develop and finalize the color palette, layout of the action, and the overall feel of the scene. When a color concept is finalized during production, it becomes the reference tool that animators use to paint cels and backgrounds, as well as to further progress through the storyboarding and layout of the individual scenes. Measuring 3.75"x6.25", the color key is in very good condition with minor discoloration, edge and corner wear, and pin holes due to studio use.
